#WedsBrief #FlashFiction : Blood Scent

Hi guys! *waves wildly* I'm back! It's been a crazy few weeks and I've been busy both with work and writing book four of The Witches' Mischief Series, Bear Heart. Sadly, the price to pay has been my Wednesday Briefs. But worry not! I'm back in my sexy briefs flashing you until you run out screaming in the other direction.

Today's story stands at 845 words and I'm still uncertain if it will stay as it is or if I'll continue it next week. (Would love your feedback)

As a quick reminder, I still intend to keep my briefs in the 3 chapter zone. Anyway, here goes. Enjoy!

Blood Scent

He wandered into the room, nose in the air sniffing out that delicious scent he’d caught in the street. Where was it? The yummy fragrance mingled with the disgusting human stench of the disco: sweat, alcohol, tobacco, nauseating perfumes, sex and even vomit. Isaac swallowed the bile rising to the back of his throat. He hated these places and avoided them at all costs unless he was starving. They were, as his friend Fabiola liked to say, giant buffets of free meat. He moved deeper into the dark void illuminated only by flashing white lights that made the bodies writhing on the dance floor seem out of coordination. He stopped to catch his breath near the bar.

“What’ll be handsome?” The bartender a petite brunette with half her hair shaved off and the other half pulled back in a ponytail smiled at him. He cringed. Why would anyone want to file their teeth to vampire points? Damn. It was already uncomfortable enough when the stupid things popped out, he couldn’t imagine living with them 24/7.

“Nothing. Thanks. I’m waiting for someone.”

Her eyes crinkled at the corners as her smile deepened. She winked. “Well, if you don’t find him let me know. I’ll be more than happy to help you.”

Before he could say anything she turned around to help out the next customer.

When had women become so brazen? Back in his time it was all covert. The flick of a wrist, the hint of an ankle, a smile behind a fan... Isaac shook his head and struggled to not pinch his nose. Where was he? He had no doubt that the tall soldier had entered this joint. His nose, delicate as it was, did not deceive him. His stomach growled reminding him that he hadn’t eaten.

“Relax,” he whispered under his breath. If all went well we will be eaten fresh meat tonight. In more ways than one. He grinned.

“What are you smiling about?”

His pulse jumped and his stomach flip-flopped as the delicious scent he’d sniffed out earlier assaulted him from behind. Slowly, he veered around to face the man standing next to him in the bar. Stormy grey eyes scrutinized him. Isaac shivered and the man smiled showing a neat array of pearly white teeth. His gaze intimately caressed him as it roamed over his body. Isaac sucked in his breath in a vain attempt to stop his cock from stirring. As he did he inhaled the other man’s sweet smell. His vision swam and his teeth sprang forward.

“Well?”

“What kind of blood do you have, I think you’re my type, he rumbled.

The other man laughed. The sound was rich and deep, reaching him inside and tugging at both his heartstrings and his quickly engorging cock.

“Is that what you were thinking about? My blood type?”

Isaac nodded and moved closer to the man. His hunger was kicking in savagely mingled with a need he couldn’t quite place. To his delight the smiling hunk didn’t move away.

“Well, I was wondering what your name was.”

Isaac chuckled and licked his lips. The other man’s gaze darkened. His dick throbbed.

“Isaac. You?”

“William.”

Isaac’s head spun and he clutched the table for support. He felt the other man’s grip on his arm and heard him ask if he was all right but he could not fathom a reply. William. William. His William. It had to be him. After so many years they would be reunited again. Could it be? Or was it nothing more than wishful thinking?

Now he recognized the smell, the sweetness of it. It was the mating call. It only appeared once in a lifetime and then it was gone forever. He’d smelled it once but in his time being attracted to other men was frowned upon with death and ostracization. Thus, he chose to love William from afar. Yet, even as he came to that decision his beloved William loved him anyway. He tried to stop him but it was impossible.  Their passion was unbridled. Their love for each other beyond anything he’d ever lived. Isaac fought back the tears building behind his eyes. Their happiness had been short-lived. The night that Isaac was going to change William permanently and turn him into one like him failed. They were discovered. Prosecuted. Condemned. William was murdered and he was powerless to do anything.
“Hey, Goth boy, look at me.” Isaac forced his eyes open at the sound of the soft yet commanding voice. The soldier named William smiled down at him. “Are you all right, Isaac?” William cupped his cheek and Isaac automatically leaned into its warmth. William’s face glowed as his smile grew. Isaac placed his palm over his.

“You want to get out of here and go somewhere more quiet?”

“You don’t mind?”

William threaded his fingers with Isaac’s holding his hand tightly he pulled him closer and brushed his lips against his. A powerful current zipped through Isaac at the simple touch.

“I very much want to get to know you better, Isaac.”

#WednesdayBriefs: Fire the Year

Happy New Year, lovelies!

What better way to celebrate the start of a new year then with a little flash fiction? I have to admit that writing today's flash was a bit of a struggle and I'm not too happy with the ending (it feels rushed) but I still hope you enjoy it and like I said yesterday, I hope you all have a wonderful 2014 and that we can see it together.

Fire the year

Cináed lurked in the shadows, watching. Laughter, music and joy filled the streets. It was what the humans called “New Year’s Eve”, a silly celebration that served to count the beginning of a new year. Cináed snorted. As if time could be measured.

He observed the passing groups of men and women dressed in fancy outfits, and in diverse states of intoxication. A mischievous grin lit his features. It was a fine day to cause havoc.

Liquid fire burned through his veins alerting him of a presence. His slit like eyes widened as he spotted the woman. She was tall and curvy, with blonde locks that hung half way down her back. Blind to her seductive air, she chatted amicably with a group of friends. His mouth watered as she passed near him and her scent filled his lungs. Exotic. The hunt would, no doubt, be exciting.

With a vigorous shake, he got rid of any remnants of his wyvern heritage and stepped into the light. A group of women that passed by at that moment giggled loudly as they caught sight of him. Cináed winked at them, causing more feminine titters to fill the air. He knew his human form was out of the ordinary, for he’d been told repeatedly by his victims.

“Oh, Kenneth –they used his human name- your eyes are like the brightest stars.”
“Oh, Kenneth, your smile lights up the room.”
“Oh, Kenneth you’re so tall, and rugged and hard, and mmm, Kenneth, that feels so good.”

Oh, yes, he was all that and more. He was also known as that bastard, poisonous snake, forked tongue, devil, among other names. Cináed grinned as he entered the first pub to the left, immediately spotting the blonde at the back with her friends.

It wasn’t his fault that women were attracted to him and swallowed his lies like water. He didn’t care for their feelings, but he didn’t want to purposely hurt them either –okay, sometimes he did- but the thing was, that he had to feed. There were other ways for him to get his nourishment, but the best kind was the passionate fire built between two bodies. He didn’t need to feed every day, so it wasn’t like he was breaking hearts on a daily basis, just like once a week. He patted his firm stomach. It was a miracle he kept in such good shape. Miracle mingled with a good dose of exercise.

Cináed ordered a drink and leaned in a practiced nonchalant pose against the bar nearest to the beauty he planned to ravage that night. Taking a sip out of his beer, he waited.

Nothing.

He frowned. That was unusual. Normally, his modus operandi was flawless. Reach out to the victim with a little fire magic until she turned around. Then he’d draw her in like a fish on a line, initiate a short conversation, buy her a drink and they’d be out of there.  Beauty was not responding. She hadn’t even glanced his way. Puckering his lips in what he knew was an unbecoming gesture; he considered replacing the delicious woman. His eyes scanned the crowded room but nothing caught his interest.  A low growl burst from his lips. Very well, he’d have to act boldly. Squaring his shoulders, he slid toward the sexy vixen and purposely bumped against her.

Nothing.

Fire raged through him in a volcanic surge. What was wrong? He was heat, light, pure sexual energy to any woman. Why not this one? Downing the rest of his drink, he set the cup aside and froze when the blonde whipped around.

“What do you want, Wyvern?”  She hissed, in a low seductive voice that made his cock twitch in his jeans.  His jaw dropped as recognition kicked in.

“Witch,” he snarled.

“That was the kindest of your insults last time we met.” A shadow of a smile crossed her face as she seemed to remember their previous meeting. His heart constricted painfully as he too recalled their last encounter.

“What are you doing here?” he blurted, crossing his arms over his chest in what, he hoped, was a commanding posture, though with Sandrina one could never be sure.

“Same as you. Searching for fire.” Her brown eyes widened at the last words, a luminous glow coming from within.

“You won’t find it here. They’re all too drunk for the sort of thing you need.”

“Perhaps, you can help me.” She placed a hand on his shoulder, the touch sending sparks of electricity over his flesh and straight to his groin area.

“It didn’t work for us last time, Sandrina. What’s to say it’ll work now?”

She moved in closer, her body pressing against his in an unspoken promise.

“Because I’ve been wet ever since I sensed your presence outside, Cináed. Because touching you, has brought back memories of you and me, together, tangled as one, burning bed after bed, night after night. Because several centuries have passed and –“

“You know I want more,” he ground out, stepping away from her alluring warmth. “That hasn’t changed, Sandrina.”

Cináed watched as her lips tightened into a thin line and her throat worked furiously as she swallowed several times.

“I’ve missed you.”

He cocked his head, surprised by her admission and the truth shining in her eyes.

“You have?”

She nodded. “After you left, I looked for you, but I couldn’t find you.”

“I kept in the shadows.”

“And then I heard about all the others and I thought—“

“I didn’t want you.” Cináed closed the distance between them, tangling his fingers in her long hair. He tugged, tilting her head back. “I never stopped wanting you.”

Cináed claimed her mouth in a slow lingering kiss, throwing all caution to the wind and reminding her, if only for a night, just how much she always meant to him. When he pulled back, tears rolled down her cheeks.

“Come on, baby. It’s time to set the New Year on fire.”

#WednesdayBriefs: Myths, Secrets and Love - chapter 6

Hello my darlings! This weeks prompts were fabulous and very inspiring. Unfortunately, my muse decided that they were perfect for any other chapter of the story, except this one. Go figure. Therefore, in the end, I went with a picture prompt which might be a bit awkward but works. Enjoy!

If you don't remember what happened in the last five chapters, you can read them HERE.  (Scroll to the bottom).

Myths, Secrets and Love 6

Rodric twirled the golden chalice between his fingers before gulping down the remainder of the wine he’d been given. He lay back against the copper tub filled to the brim
with warm water. Alone at last. The servant that had tended to him had been thorough in washing his hair, shaving his beard and scrubbing his back, but he needed a few moments to himself. His mind was racing with all that had transpired in the last few days: The fight, the fire, Fergus vanishing, the loss, the hope, the sirens, the unicorns, the oath and the kiss. Rodric groaned, shutting his eyes tightly against the memory of that kiss. The more he tried to forget it, the more details he seemed to recall. He licked his lips. By the Gods, he could still taste it: the strong taste of rum mingled with the bitter taste of dark chocolate. It was sweet and heady and brought goose bumps over his flesh. His cock twitched just like back then.

He remembered the gentle, tentative press of those lips on his. They had been surprisingly soft for one so rough. Rodric shivered. Once, twice, those carnal bows had pressed against his, waiting no doubt, for him to push him away. How could he? How could he demand he leave when a simple touch of their mouths felt so right? Fergus closed the little remaining distance between them. He was so close Rodric could feel the outline of his erection pressed against his own.

“Tell me now if you want me to stop,” Fergus whispered.

Rodric wet his lips. The words he knew he should be saying becoming stuck in his throat at the sight of Fergus’ lust filled gaze. Fergus touched his arm and he shuddered. Feather light fingertips raced up his arm to his shoulder and green eyes framed by long golden lashes bore into his.

“Last chance, Captain.”

Fergus teased him, a small smile on his lips but uncertainty in his eyes. Rodric nodded. He knew there would be no going back. The truth was he didn’t want to go back. He’d had countless women in his bed, in his life, but no kiss, no touch, had ever felt so intimate as Fergus’ did at that moment.

Rodric heard the sharp intake of Fergus’ breath. The smile vanished and the vivid eyes grew wide and hopeful. Lightly, Fergus’ fingers trailed to his neck and laced at his nape, forcing him to tilt his head as those incredibly soft lips meshed against his again. Rodric moaned. Blood found its way to his limbs again and he discovered he could move. He could draw them closer; he could make them one. His hands grasped Fergus’ waist and brought him tight against him. Fergus’ whimper traveled straight to his dick, fattening it further. The fingers in his hair tightened as he teased the seams of the other man’s lips, beckoning him to open for him. He didn’t need to beg. Fergus opened his mouth and allowed him entrance into the treasure trove. Their tongues found each other, mingling, dancing in a macabre dance of lust that had no end in sight.

Bells sounded in the distance and loud panicked voices filtered from the streets below. The hair on the back of his neck stood on end and he pulled away, panting. Fergus’ nose wrinkled in confusion. His lips were red and swollen from the force of their kisses and a sense of perverse satisfaction coursed through Rodric at the sight. He reached for Fergus, eager to claim him again but his friend took a step back.

“The bells are ringing.” Fergus’ voice was husky, sensual even in its urgency. Rodric shivered.

“Yes,” he managed to say. It’s what caught my attention,” he decided to explain not wanting Fergus’ to think that he didn’t care.

The voices grew louder, screams rent the air and someone shrieked fire. All trace of passion vanished from Fergus’ eyes as he hurried to the window to gaze outside. Rodric didn’t move. A sudden chill made his teeth chatter. What had he done? Fergus turned to look at him, excitement for what was happening clear in his eyes. Their kiss forgotten and cast aside as another conquest, another jest, another game. Rodric clenched his teeth. What madness had possessed him to allow that kiss? He forced a smile to his lips, feigning indifference.

“Fire, pirates and mayhem,” he choked out in a surprisingly steady voice. “Let’s get to it.”

Fergus grinned and ran ahead. Rodric shook his head and followed him at a more leisurely pace. He too would bury the kiss aside and forget it ever happened. After tonight’s battle, he’d find a woman to comfort him and tend to his needs. He had gone on too long without the company of a woman’s body and that, he decided as he drew his sword and prepared to step aside, was what had driven him to accept Fergus’ kiss. Grinning back at his comrade, he stepped outside into chaos.

“Sir, Sir Belavue.”

Rodric started. His heart in his throat he opened his eyes to discover that the sun was setting and the amiable servant that had tended to him had returned.

“I am sorry to disturb you, Sir, but dinner is ready and Queen Lenara awaits your presence.”

Nodding, Rodric allowed the young man to help him out of the tub. He’d fallen asleep while bathing. He passed the soft linen the servant had offered him to dry with over his face. He hadn't been aware of being so exhausted. Perhaps, he should give up. Fergus was a grown man that could take care of himself and had demonstrated it countless times in the past.  Yet-- Rodric licked his lips-- Rum and chocolate...

#WednesdayBriefs: Myths, Secrets and Love - chapter 5

Happy Hump Day, lovelies! Welcome to another installment of Myths, Secrets and Love :-) This week I used the prompt The man had all the manners of a surly bear and aided myself with the picture prompt below. Enjoy!

If you don't remember what happened in the last four chapters, you can read them HERE.  (Scroll to the bottom).

Myths, Secrets and Love 5

Rodric followed Arjä in thoughtful silent. A Centaur had joined them soon after entering the skirts of the forest and was guiding them deeper and deeper into the wilderness. His head ached. He should have gotten rid of Fergus when he had the chance. The man was nothing but trouble and if he had had any common sense he would have paid off his debt in gold and never established a friendship between them. Rodric rubbed his tired eyes. How different his life would be if he had never met Ferguson. To begin with, he wouldn’t be traipsing through a Unicorn forest. Secondly, he would not have taken to the seas again. He had repeatedly told the dastard man that he had no interest in pirating. It was too dangerous, what with the English taking over everything and declaring piracy illegal. Yet, Fergus came pleading and he’d conceded.

“One last time,” he murmured under his breath, imitating Fergus. “One last time.”
Rodric snorted. One last time and here he was, traversing the world to find the bastard. Suddenly, he stopped.

“These trees?”

The centaur turned his head to look at him, a proud glint in his eyes.

“They are Miraplata, a unique tree to the Arvynen race.”

“They’re silver.”

“Yes, Captain. Silver trunks and glass leaves. Watch your step.”

Rodric tripped. Unfazed, he kept walking forward, wide-eyed. The earlier clearing he’d seen was amazing, but now he stood in a circle of black grass, surrounded by silver trees. The place was empty except for a dais at the back were two thrones were set and upon them a woman and a centaur. Rodric froze, unsure if he should approach them. From where he stood he could see that the woman was out of the ordinary. Not only was she beautiful, there was power in her.

“Come near.”

Rodric jumped at the rough command. It came from the centaur sitting to her left. He was impressive. His hair was an inky black, the edges curling below his naked torso. Rodric swallowed. A body that was hard and littered with scars, indicating that he was a seasoned warrior. There was no doubt that in combat, Rodric would lose.

Arjä took hold of his hand and led him to the dais. She bowed and he followed, a nervous jitter pinpricking his flesh.

The woman’s full lips curled into a smile, her violet eyes observing him with kindness. She was by far the most beautiful woman he had ever seen, and that was saying something, for Rodric had seen plenty of women in his lifetime. Even the siren’s with their alluring beauty paled in comparison to the woman at the throne.

“Welcome Rodric Belavue, we have been expecting you.”

Rodric nodded, unsure if he should speak. He could barely imagine Fergus having been in his place. The man had all the manners of a surly bear.

“I am Lenara, queen of the Arvynen and to my left sits Diyör, king of the Arvynen.” She smiled warmly at him. “We have much to speak off, but first, I must make you swear secrecy and fealty to me and this kingdom.”

Rodric balked. From what he’d gleamed royalty was always subtle and indirect. This queen was different and he didn’t know what to make of it.

“We do not play your human games here,” the queen said. “And there is no time to loose, for Fergus is in more danger than he himself is aware of.”

Rodric perked up. His heart hammered against his chest and worry ate at his gut.

“What do you mean?”

“Kneel and swear and I shall tell you.”

He frowned, and glanced about. There was no running away. Not that he had any intention of fleeing but it was always a good idea to have an escape route. With a hefty sigh, he kneeled before the Queen. She stood from her throne and placed her long fingers on his shoulders.

“Do you Rodric Agnus Belavue swear to secrecy and fealty to this kingdom until the day you die?”

“I swear secrecy to this kingdom until the day I die and I swear fealty to this kingdom while I stand on it.”

The Queen laughed. “It will do, I know you will never betray us.” Rodric’s eyes widened as the queen began to shimmer and fade. His mouth fell open as in her place a marvelous unicorn appeared. Her horn touched his left shoulder and then his right.

“Touch my horn” Her voice echoed in his mind and he did as asked, too shocked to do anything else.

“Repeat your oath.”

“I swear secrecy and fealty to this kingdom until the day I die.”

A cool burst of energy seemed to pass from the horn to his fingers. Rodric shivered. He released the horn as the unicorn began to shimmer and shift again. Only then, did he realize that he had fully sworn fealty and secrecy to the kingdom.

“You tricked me,” he said rising to his feet in anger.

The queen glided back to her throne. “No, you swore what came from your heart.” She shrugged and waved her hand. Rodric balled his hands into fists, attempting to control the rolling rage coursing through him.

.“Draw a bath for the gentleman as well as clean clothes. He’ll need ointment to kill the vermin in his head. Prepare a meal as well,” Lenara ordered a servant that had appeared.

“A bath? Food? I just swore fealty and secrecy not for any of those things, but for Fergus. We need to talk, my lady. I don’t have time for this, especially if as you say, Fergus is in danger.”

The Queen smiled beguilingly at him again. “It will only be for this day, Captain. The light will soon fade and you will not be able to travel. You shall bathe and eat and we shall speak. Tomorrow you shall part and the winds will be in your favor, I promise. You will reach Fergus before you know it.”

#WednesdayBriefs: Myths, Secrets and Love 4

*If here for the Mid-Week Tease only please click here or scroll down*

Happy Hump Day, darling readers!

I'm back with the reluctant pirate, Rodric, in his search for his friend Fergus.  The prompt I used is the jungle picture below.

If you don't remember what happened in the last three chapters, you can read them HERE.  (Scroll to the bottom). Otherwise, read on and enjoy! And as always, don't forget to read the other stories of this week's fabulous flashers!

 Myths, Secrets and Love 4

“Is it far?” Rodric asked, pushing another hanging vine out of the way. He wasn’t sure how long they’d been trudging through the unwelcome land. The air was stuffy and humid, the smell of rotting vegetation making breathing a complicated task. Sweat poured down his back and he waved off the insects buzzing near his head. He scratched his head. Not only did he have to deal with lice, now he smelled like a pig. Rodric sighed.

Arjä twisted her head to look at him. A small smile played at her lips and her eyes shone with mischief. Rodric frowned. That playful glint was the same Fergus had given him before he’d disappeared. Nothing good came of it then and he could warrant that nothing good would come out of it now.

“Listen, I demand to know—“ The rest of his words were forgotten as he followed Arjä behind a curtain of trees. His jaw dropped. He stood at the crest of a hill and before him, a new world extended. Gone was the wild jungle they had been traversing, in its stead a grassy plain teaming with life.

Arjä’s tinkling laughter sounded close to him, but he paid it no heed, the sight before his feet mesmerizing. The sunlight that had barely filtered through the thick trees of the jungle poured over the field, bathing everything in a warm yellow glow. In the distance, a body of water glittered. A loud neigh made him turn to his left. His eyes watered as he witnessed a group of unicorns and centaurs race through the fields, their long manes billowing behind them like a banner.

Arjä took his hand, breaking the spell he seemed to have fallen into. Rodric looked at her, confused.

“Do you see the trees in the distance? That is where we’re going. Come, they wait for us.”

Rodric nodded and allowed her to lead him. He was speechless. Never in his life had he seen such a marvelous sight as the one that lay before him. For the first time, he understood why the Unicorn race wanted nothing to do with men. The race of men was destructive. They could build, but in their fore they always left a trail of death and destruction. If any man was to discover the paradise that lay behind the jungle, there would be no Unicorn people and the beauty of the land would fade to become only a myth, the dream of a writer who once imagined there could be such a place. He followed Arjä down a worn path, taking in every detail. The wind ruffled the grass, making it dance like the ocean out on the sea. Butterflies spread their wings across the tall grasses and birds cawed and chirped overhead, flying in peace. Trepidation clawed its way into him. Why was he being allowed to see all this? He recalled Arjä’s earlier words: you shall swear secrecy and fealty. Fear raced down his spine as he became aware that if he did not do as the Unicorn people asked him he would die this day.

He recoiled, forgetting that Arjä was still holding his hand. She turned to look at him, her blue eyes searching his face. Suddenly, she smiled.

“Have no fear, Rodric Belavue. We mean you no harm.”

“I wouldn’t be so certain,” he managed to croak. Rodric cleared his voice. “This, this land, you don’t show it to anyone that arrives on your beach.”

“Of course not. Only those worthy can see the land of the Arvynen.”

Rodric couldn’t stop his eyebrows from lifting. “You  think I’m worthy?” he asked, incredulous.

The unicorn woman threw back her head and laughed gaily. “Aye, any man that travels the world to recover his,” she paused, “friend, is worthy of us. Besides,” she added with a cryptic smile, “we’ve heard things.”

Rodric shook his head and willed his feet to move behind Arjä.

“What things?” Good Gods what had Fergus told them?

“You’ll learn them soon enough,” she said as they reached the edge of the looming forest.
