Some crazy Halloween couples and a Giveaway!

Who wants to win some prizes? I'm talking ebooks and gift cards to buy more books! *grin* This post should have gone up last week but technical difficulties delayed it. However, the giveaway is still going on strong!

As the hopeless romantic that I am, plotting stories with seemingly impossible pairs. You know, like, dragon shifters and humans or elves and vampires.

With that in mind and since it’s almost Halloween and all sort of scary creatures will be coming out to play, I’ve come up with a short list of the craziest spooky-romantic pairings I could think of.

1.       Frankenstein and the Wicked Witch of Oz: The wicked witch would fall for Frank’s green tinge and his large muscles. He’d be a goner once he had a look at those pretty stockings she wears and the sexy red shoes.

Zombies and vampires

NAMELESS
by Claire Kent

~~~~~~~~~~~~~
They named it anything but love.
After a failed marriage to a domineering man, Erin refuses to be controlled by anything or anyone. That includes Seth, the father of her baby—a man who was supposed to be only a one-night-stand, a man who’s used to always getting his way.
There’s a reason that Seth Thomas, a successful defense attorney, is often referred to as the Bulldozer. If something needs to happen, he makes it happen. That includes being part of his baby’s life—even if he never expected to be a father, even if Erin doesn’t really trust him.
They’ll work out an arrangement in the best interest of their baby—and if they occasionally have sex, well, that’s just an added perk—but they both agree on one thing.
What they have will never be love.
Excerpt:
She wandered back to the table to find Seth staring broodingly at his empty glass.
She watched him for a minute.  Then, “Are you all right?”
He jerked his head toward her, as if he hadn’t realized she’d returned.  “Yeah.”
Studying him closely, she decided she didn’t believe him.  He was flushed from warmth and the Scotch, adorably rumpled in his wrinkled suit and loosened tie, and sprawled out on the booth seat.  But he looked vulnerable somehow.
Wounded.
She sat down beside him, instead of in her chair.  “I’m switching to water. If I drink any more, I might throw up.”  This she said by way of explanation, so he wouldn’t think she was giving up on their evening.
“Very sensible of you.”
“Throwing up in front of you would be embarrassing.”
Seth nodded.  “It wouldn’t be very pleasant for me either.”
Then he licked his lips the way he had before.
Erin watched his tongue slide across the supple line of each lip, moistening each as it went.
She moved toward him.  Slid her hands up his chest until they settled on his shoulders.  “I asked you to stop licking your lips.”
His mouth parted slightly, perhaps in surprise, but he didn’t have time to say anything.
Leaning her face toward his, she pressed her lips into his.  He was warm and solid beneath her, and he made a little grunt in his throat.
He tasted and smelled like Scotch, and also something fainter, more masculine.
When she relaxed her mouth on his, he murmured against her lips, “What was that?”
“That,” she pronounced, pleased she was thinking so clearly, “was a kiss.”
Adrian Ormonde
(from A Dragon's Heart, A Demon's Blood)
He stared at the simple profile he’d written for the dragon/demon shifter months ago. It stated little more than the basics of the creature: height, eye color, hair color, body build, favorite flavor, drink, cologne.
And of course, his weapon expertise and the names he used to disguise himself. Contrary to what many believed, Adrian was no mere mortal. He was more, much more. The man with a gun always tucked inside his perennial leather jacket was the best in his line of work: bounty hunting. He’d dealt with all matter of creatures in his more than 150 years. The only race he hadn’t hunted were humans. Until now. The elderly man rubbed his jaw and broke into a grin. Even he was surprised at the intensity of the shifter’s feelings. He knew the connection would be strong but he never predicted for the man with the wry sense of humor and a natural distrust of people to fall so easily and so hard for the girl. He’d lost his family as a child and his mentor as an adolescent and yet, even as he told the young woman to keep away from him, he kept returning to her.
He hadn’t missed the way Adrian smiled when he hugged her close, the way he watched her or the way he touched her. Adrian Ormonde was considerate around the girl. He was tender, gentle, caring. The Warlock grinned, snapping the book shut. In all his years of watching the demon/dragon shifter, he’d never seen him act like that, so mindful of the well-being and feelings of another. He was still rough, a bad ass with an attitude but around her he changed. Pulling back his chair, the man stood and snuffed the candle at his desk. The best part was that the hybrid shifter wasn’t even aware of the change inside him. He adduced his feelings to the natural lust of his demon and the natural instinct of protection of his dragon.
Striding out of the room, the Warlock fought the bubble of laughter threatening to escape him. Incredible. A dragon/demon shifter with feelings. He chuckled. The legendary bounty hunter exceeded his expectations and he couldn’t wait to see how things would play out in the grand scheme of things.
***
Adrian shuddered. His green eyes narrowed as he searched his surroundings for any sign of danger. Everything seemed at peace. The starry sky was clear and the moon bright as it reflected over the body of water quietly lapping against the shore. Behind him, the house was quiet. Yet, he'd felt something. Uneasy, he decided to go back inside to check on the girl. Just in case. He slipped past the kitchen and into the living room, making sure to keep to the shadows. There she was, fast asleep. Her face was peaceful, her lips partly opened as she took even breathes. Adrian's heart pumped hard, the dragon inside him jolting to life at the sight of the girl. His fingers itched to run over that porcelain skin, to feel it's smooth surface against his calloused pads once more.
His breath caught and he hid further into the shadows as Victoria moved, kicking back the duvet. A prickling sensation rushed through him and landed hard between his legs as her naked thigh came into view: his demon was wide awake. Biting down on his lip, Adrian stifled a groan. He wanted to do much more than just touch.
Running his fingers through his hair he remained still, watching her. He knew he should go, yet he couldn't tear his eyes from the woman sleeping on his couch. Taking a deep breathe he drank in her fragrance. His eyes closed of their own volition. Vanilla. A sweet and intoxicating smell. It fit her. Adrian smirked. But there was more in the air than her sweet scent. Sex and his own fragrance permeated the air. His cock twitched, his demon hungry for another taste of her. His dragon twisted, squeezing his heart as he recalled their lovemaking. It had been intense, passionate yet gentle. Opening his eyes, Adrian glanced at Victoria one final time before heading back to the bitter cold. Rubbing his temple, he stared off into the distance, waiting for the first ray of sunlight to show and trying not to think of Victoria. There were too many questions that needed answering but first they had to find a safer place.
