Hope you're all doing well. I have to go into work today for a meeting. Suffice to say, I'm not excited about the prospect. Anyhow, on to today's snippet!
In last week's snippet Morgana and Christopher were discussing the meaning of power. I'm continuing from there.
Edits have taken place to keep to WeWriWa guidelines.

“Is is it ethical to lie to others and trick them to gain something from them, Mr. Bexley?”
Christopher
laughed. “Ethics, Miss Wiles? Have you noticed the world we live in? Ethics do
not exist. Since the world was created, men have battled, killed, maimed,
coerced, and tricked, to obtain their goals, be it women, riches, or power. I
am not the first or the last, and I can assure you, I am not the worst you will
find.”
“Yes, men have
battled, tricked, killed, maimed, coerced, and more, but they have also loved,
shared, forgiven, cherished, and more, for honor.”
“And glory."
“No, and good.”

Beauty in the Beast
Light will
become shadow. Love will become hate. Good will become evil. The Darkness is
here. There will be no escape.
Morgana Wiles has
spent her life, alongside her mother, fighting against the arrival of the
creature known as The Darkness. Unfortunately, neither of them were able to
stop him and now he's here, ready to destroy all that is good in the world.
Morgana must face him, but now that the time has come, she finds that things
are not as simple. Her mother is gone, self-doubt is creeping in, and her
visions are unclear. To make matters worse, a man with evil intent has entered
her life and is bent on complicating her mission. Will she be able to resist
him in time to fight The Darkness or will she succumb and become that which she
despises?
I love the final line - Morgana's comment is a crushing statement, in two words pointing out everything wrong with Christopher's twisted values.

ReplyDeleteOf all the snippets you've ever shared, Elyzabeth, this is my favorite! “Yes, men have battled, tricked, killed, maimed, coerced, and more, but they have also loved, shared, forgiven, cherished, and more, for honor.” SO well put... :-)
ReplyDeleteI love the way she shows him an alternative. Great snippet.
