Well, as it turned out, last week I posted my snippet but forgot to sign up to the Linky List of Weekend Writing Warriors. *facepalm* My head has not been in the right place. Fortunately, I think this week I've done it right. LOL
In this snippet, Morgana and Christopher are discussing the meaning of power. Their views might be a little different...
~ ~ ~ ~ ~
"How do you influence
others with your power, Mr. Bexley? By bewitching them? Playing with their
emotions and physical needs, is that what you do? Is that what you would
consider power? To have a woman lay in your bed because you have bewitched
her?"
"Yes, Miss Wiles.
That is power. To have the ability to influence others to do your will. To have
a woman lay in your bed because I have bewitched her is a demonstration of my
power. I can do that and more, and as you well know, so could your
mother."

Beauty in the Beast
Light will
become shadow. Love will become hate. Good will become evil. The Darkness is
here. There will be no escape.
Morgana Wiles has
spent her life, alongside her mother, fighting against the arrival of the
creature known as The Darkness. Unfortunately, neither of them were able to
stop him and now he's here, ready to destroy all that is good in the world.
Morgana must face him, but now that the time has come, she finds that things
are not as simple. Her mother is gone, self-doubt is creeping in, and her
visions are unclear. To make matters worse, a man with evil intent has entered
her life and is bent on complicating her mission. Will she be able to resist
him in time to fight The Darkness or will she succumb and become that which she
despises?
What a lovely bit of dialogue
ReplyDeleteWell, he doesn't seem the least bit apologetic. I wouldn't turn my back on this guy!
ReplyDeleteA very good demonstration that power corrupts. Mr Bexley comes across as a very dangerous character - but interestingly, it seems that Miss Wiles may be equally powerful.
ReplyDeleteI prefer equal power, folks. More fun.
ReplyDeleteWhich raises the question that Mr. Bexley is ignoring - if you force someone to do your will against their will, you haven't really 'won' when it comes to the heart and mind. Interesting debate they're having - great snippet!
ReplyDeleteWow, great snippet. "And so could your mother." What a powerful way to tie up the end!
ReplyDeleteOh my, powerful snippet indeed, Elyzabeth :-)
ReplyDeleteThis would always be a disconcerting thing to learn about one's mother, but especially in this sexual context.
ReplyDeleteAnd the challenge is on! Nice tease, Elyzabeth!
ReplyDeleteWell, at least he's being honest... right? And great ending line. :)
ReplyDeleteHmm, interesting Elyzabeth. Semantics. Some would call his power...others may call it trickery :-) He is a trickster of sorts. I'm actually dealing with this right now in the WIP I've been excerpting from. :-)
