Grisha Vasiliev entered the ballet studio. His five hundred dollar leather shoes squeaked against the vinyl floor. He frowned. He stood to one side, away from the other spectators. He leaned against the wall and crossed his arms over his chest. The velvety smoothness of the piano chords playing from the speakers wrapped around him like the touch of a lover’s caress.

“Down, up, down, plie, tendu, pli-plie.”

Anton Phillip, the ballet master of his company drilled instructions from the front of the room across a floor to ceiling mirror. A group of close to forty dancers aged fifteen and over followed his commands. They were there to learn and take their technique to the next level with the best: Anika Vasiliev’s ballet company.

  4. Love the little details throughout, like the $500 shoes. This character is certainly capturing my interest. Just one tiny thing I wanted to mention - you have three 'He' sentences in a row in your first paragraph and I found it a bit repetitive. Otherwise, I very much enjoyed this excerpt! :)

  5. Vinyl floor surprised me. I haven't been in a studio for a long time yet I recall polished wood. Lovely snippet.
