I'm still working in slow motion when it comes to visiting other participants' blogs and it doesn't look like it's going to get any better this week, so don't be surprised when you get a comment from me on Friday or Saturday of next week.
Thanks for your comments and your support last week. Even though my anxiety hasn't settled down, I finally decided to say yes to that work situation which had me on my toes. Now, instead of being an ESL teacher, I'm also going to start dipping my toe in the administrative aspect of the academy where I work. *shiver*
Anyway, enough about me! Let's get on with the story and the snippet.
I've skipped a few lines in which Clare basically decides that her best option is to obey this creature (at least until she can find an opportunity to run).

He closed his eyes, willing the darkness away. He'd brought it forth on purpose for the little human was a danger to herself and to him. He was a Feardrako. Theirs was a race that knew little about laughter and smiles, yet, in the few minutes since he’d met Clare, he’d been unable to hold back his amusement. Where they were going that sort of weakness would get them killed.
Slowly, Serrik removed his hand and waited for her reaction. Fear was clear in her grey eyes and in the perspiration dusting her nose and upper lip. Good. He took a step back and watched her visibly suck in a breath.
