#WednesdayBriefs: Myths, Secrets and Love - chapter 15

Happy Wednesday and welcome to another chapter of Rodric's adventure. If you don't remember what happened last week, want to catch up, or reread everything just because, please click here. Otherwise, on you go! The prompt I used for this week is in bold.

Myths, Secrets and Love 15

“Let’s try this again.” The dragon lord smiled mischievously. “Welcome to my home, Rodric Belavue. I hear you are looking for help. Perhaps, we can be of assistance.”

Rodric narrowed his eyes at the Dragon Lord’s mocking tone. This was not boding well. Sighing, he braced himself to reveal all. While bathing and redressing, he’d been allowed a moment of solitude. In the end, he’d decided that he had nothing to lose by telling the dragon the truth. His only options were to be eaten or to reveal all.

“I am looking for a friend and I need help to get to another plane.” He sipped at the red wine served to him.

The Dragon Lord’s eyebrows shot up. He pursed his mouth and stared at him for an instant before taking a bite out of the salad served to them.

“A friend? You’re doing all this for a friend?” He shook his head. “I am impressed.”  He pointed his fork at him. “Why is he so valuable to you?”

“That is personal.” Rodric replied. He scowled at the young man, who in turn laughed.
“Very well. I’ll allow you that secret, for now.” He took several bites of his food before plunging on. “You must understand, we don’t normally work as transportation for mortals. We have other interests.”

“What is your price?”

“You can’t pay it.”

“Then why am I still sitting here? Why am I still alive?” Rodric slammed his fist on the table, frustrated.

The Dragon Lord shrugged. “I was curious to know you. Rumors abound about you, Belavue.” The boy smiled. “To be honest, they exaggerate a lot. You’re not as handsome, tall, strong and brave as I was told.”

“What do you want from me?”

“Why, some good company.”

“You’re toying with me.”

“Of course.” The Dragon Lord sighed and focused his gaze on him. A shiver ran down Rodric’s spine, a feeling of foreboding settling in his gut. “There is one thing that would compensate the price of our service.”

Rodric took another sip from his drink, bracing himself for the worst.

“What?”

“Arjä.”

“What about her?”

“Give us the Unicorn princess and we’ll serve as your personal mode of transport to Devil’s Land.”

“What? I can’t do that.”

“Why not?” The Dragon Lord cocked his head, watching him as if he really didn’t understand. “You save the friend you lust after. We keep the girl that annoys you. I don’t see the problem.”

“She’s a friend too.”

“Well, you can’t have it all, Belavue. Either you keep the girl and lose your friend to the Demon’s or you give us the girl and find your friend.” The Dragon Lord smirked. “Or what’s left of him.”

“Why do you want her?”

“We have old business.”

“With that Raskard snake.”

The Dragon Lord’s eyes narrowed into yellow slits. “We are not snakes, Belavue, and it would do you well to remember that in the future.”

Rodric swallowed and nodded. They’d given him back his clothes but not his weapons. He’d do anything for the feel of his sword at this side right now. His thoughts strayed to Arjä. What did they want from her?

“Where is Arjä? I would like to speak to her before deciding anything.”

“I’m afraid that’s not possible.”

“Have you killed her already?”

The Dragon Lord burst out laughing. “You really think we are barbarians, eh? I told you earlier she was with Raskard and he was taking care of her needs. Your decision however has to be your own. You two together could plot anything and I won’t allow it. I’ll give you until tomorrow to come to a decision, Belavue. It’s not that hard. Keep the girl and lose your friend, or lose the girl and find your friend.” The young man shrugged and snapped his fingers. A pretty servant hurried to fill his goblet of wine. “It’s really not that hard.”

To be continued... maybe.

#WednesdayBriefs: Myths, Secrets and Love - chapter 14

Happy Wednesday !

As i was writing today's Brief I got to thinking and wondering if you guys would like to read some chapters from Arjä's point of view. This is mainly Rodric's quest, but she could offer a different perspective and at the back of my mind I have her own story going around in circles and asking for an outing. For a while, I even thought about sneaking in a chapter from Fergus's POV but I think I prefer for him to remain a mystery. Please let me know your thoughts.

Anyway, on to today's brief! Rodric, if you remember from last week has just met the sexy yet young-looking Dragon Lord. He's not impressed, especially since the Dragon Lord is trying to get him to tell him what brought them into his lands and is not being very nice about it.  The last thing the Dragon Lord said and to what Rodric is answering at the beginning of this chapter was: “A man after my own heart, distrustful to the core. Isn’t it obvious, Captain Belavue?”

Myths, Secrets and Love 14

"No, it’s not apparent.” Rodric shook his head. Of course it was obvious, the Lord wanted something from him, though what, only he knew. The youngster chuckled.

“Playing the fool in a desperate attempt to get your head around things, are we not, Captain?”

The Lord stood from his seat and stretched, his toned muscles flexing. A shiver raced down Rodric’s spine as the man’s green eyes focused on him.

“Your options are limited, Captain. They are but two.” He lifted his hand, showing off two fingers with long nails. “Option number one is for you to tell me what brought you here. Option number two—“ Rodric gasped and stumbled back as before his eyes the man shifted. Green eyes turned into yellowish slits, sharp canines elongated and enormous red wings sprouted from the Lord’s back.

 “You become my next meal.”

Rodric fell to his knees as a claw touched his shoulder. He shook uncontrollably. Fear and awe mingling inside of him as the Dragon Lord’s word echoed in his head. Fergus’s face danced behind his lids. The memory of losing him forever came afore and squeezed at his heart. He would not succumb to the dragon, not without a fight. He hadn’t made it this far to fail now. He took in a deep breath and forced his eyes open.

The Dragon Lord stood before him in his human form, except for his yellowish eyes. Rodric grinned. A rebel youngster. Fuck. He knew better than to be fooled by appearances. The Dragon Lord crouched in front of him, grinning. He eased toward him, his lips barely a breadth away.

“Don’t be afraid, Captain.” The Lord’s sensual voice wrapped itself around him like a hypnotizing caress. “But don’t ever underestimate me and my kind.” He pressed his lips against his softly for a second before pulling back. “Tell me, what do you want from us?”

“What guarantee do I have that if I tell you, you won’t eat me or Arjä?”

“Fuckan bistir.” The Dragon Lord moved back, chuckling under his breath. “I could have eaten you two seconds ago and I did not. Take that as you will.”

Rodric swallowed and slowly got to his feet. His chains rattled loudly. Standing to his full height he stared down at the Dragon Lord.

“Unchain me, give me back my clothes and I will tell you the reason for our visit.”

“Are you mad? You’re trying to bargain with me?”

“I’m simply trying to speak to you from one man to another. You are already in a position of superiority. I am in your territory. You’re stronger, larger, probably faster. You can do things I have never deemed possible. At least let me have my fucking clothes back."

“Geaglia.”

A beautiful woman with long dark hair and dressed in a simple tunic that barely reached her highs, appeared at the door. She bowed her head in deference to the Lord.

“Wis ha, gavo ha bic ha cletho in bran ha bic fe danno.”

“What—“

The woman turned to him and grinned. In one smooth movement she slipped off her tunic. Rodric’s jaw fell as she took a step toward him and shifted into a large black creature. With one snap of her jaws she took hold of his chains. He fell to his knees.

“Go with Geaglia, she’ll take good care of you.” The Dragon Lord burst out laughing as the she-dragon dragged him away from the chamber.

#WednesdayBriefs: Myths, Secrets and Love - chapter 13

Happy Wednesday darlings! My apologies for not briefing for the past few weeks, but the month of February got out of hand. It’s been chaotic. *sigh* Hopefully March will be a little calmer. Anyhow, here I am back with Rodric’s quest in his search for Fergus. We’ve met mermaids, unicorns, fairies and last time I briefed, Rodric and Arjä had been ambushed by dragons, which aren’t exactly friendly.

If you don't remember what happened last week, want to catch up, or reread everything just because, please click here. Otherwise, on you go! The prompt I used for this week was the hunky guy below.

Myths, Secrets and Love 13

Rodric stared at the man before him. He was not what he had imagined a Dragon Lord would look like, especially after Raskard’s impressive entrance earlier. He imagined a fierce creature, large, old and maybe even scaly. What he wasn’t expecting was the kid sitting in front of him.

The man introduced to them as The Lord was too young. His long dark locks unevenly cut framed a boyish face with deep green eyes. His body was hard and muscled but lean, like a man that still had to grow into his flesh. He was certainly tattooed. From his right shoulder to his knees intricate patterns of red and black ink danced over his skin. The designs did little to improve his opinion of The Lord. The tattoos didn’t help inspire fear, to the contrary they reminded him of a rebellious child, eager to prove himself to others in any way.

“Rodric Belavue. I hope my people have not been too rough on you.”
Rodric narrowed his eyes. The Lord’s voice was masculine, yet soft, like a serpents quiet hissing. He felt the man’s green gaze pinned on him and nodded.
“They’ve separated me from my companion, taken my weapons, stripped me naked and chained me. I’ve had worse treatment.”

The Lord swept back his hair and grinned at him. Rodric flinched at the sight of the twin dimples on his cheeks. How old could he possibly be?

“I am glad to hear it. I wouldn’t want to kill you before I can figure out your worth.”

The boy leaned back against his stack of pillows and gazed at him. Rodric shivered as his green eyes shifted, becoming yellow reptilian slits.

“Do not make the mistake of underestimating me because of my appearance, Belavue. Others have died because of that.”

“What?”

The dragon lord laughed.  Rodric swallowed. His palms were clammy and he fought the urge to swipe them on the loin cloth they’d placed around his nether regions.

“What do you want from us, Rodric Belavue?”

“Where is Arjä.”

“Ah Arjä.” The Lord closed his eyes and wetted his lips with the tip of his tongue as if he could taste the unicorn princess just by saying her name. “The beautiful yet silly unicorn princess. Do not worry about her. I’m sure Raskard is taking good care of her needs.”

Rodric frowned.

“She—“

The Lord sighed dramatically and cradled his face with his palm. “She and Raskard have a history. I assure you, she’ll be safer with him then in the dungeons where I’ll be sending you unless you tell me why you’ve come into my territory.”

“Could I not have been looking for a new home in the Island?”

The Lord threw back his head and laughed.

“You? I can see into your heart, Rodric Belavue. You are a thief and a killer, but you have scruples and morals and you’re, “ he shuddered, “in love. You’re not desperate enough to seek a home in Fire Island.” A devilish grin crossed the Lord’s face. Rodric paled at the sight of the sharp canines glinting in the dim light. “Not yet, at least. Now, tell me. Where are you headed and why do you seek our aid. I don’t have all day.”

“Why would you aid me?”

The dragon chuckled. “A man after my own heart, distrustful to the core. Isn’t it obvious, Captain Belavue?”

#WednesdayBriefs: Myths, Secrets and Love - chapter 12

If you are here for the Evernight Love Scene Blog Hop then please click here

Greetings lovelies! Today is my birthday! *throws confetti and does the jiggy* Now, I know I promised a celebration and you *WILL* get one, but it will have to wait until Saturday. Life has gotten pretty hectic and I want to do things right so that you all have fun. *smiles* Anyway, on to today’s Wednesday Brief, which as  you can see is quite short too. Regardless of this, the prompt is in bold and I hope you enjoy!

Myths, Secrets and Love 12

“Relax, Rodric. You’re making a mountain out of a molehill.”

Rodric grunted. A tick made his eye twitch as he looked around the dirt coated streets. A whore tried to grab his arm and he shoved her away without an apology. How could he not be anxious when they were in uncharted territory? After the incident in Fairy land Arjä had directed him to this place. How she knew of it was beyond him. Of course, he’d heard of it. Any pirate and ill reputed sailor had, but no one ever stepped on Fire Island unless they had a very good reason.  The place was the home of the cream of society, aka, coat-throats, thieves, bounty hunters and worse. This is where you went if the law was after you and you had nowhere else to go.  Rodric’s nose wrinkled in distaste as Arjä led him further into the city and into the tanner’s quarter.

“Where is everyone?”

Not a soul could be seen in the street, the hovels to each narrow side of the street standing aside like abandoned ghosts.

“Out and about, I suppose,” Arjä replied without breaking her stride. “It is of no consequence to us where the people of this town lie.”

Roughly, Rodric grabbed her arm and turned her to face him. Her eyes widened in surprise for an instant, before narrowing in annoyance.

“What is wrong with you?”

It was hard to believe that the woman standing before him was the same one that had departed with him from Arvynen. Arjä whole manner had changed since the visit to the fairies. Her long light blonde hair was gone, replaced by dark locks cut in a boyish fashion.  To her already manly wardrobe she’d added a jacket with belts and brass buttons that gave her an elegant yet seasoned air. Rodric released her and stepped back, giving her room. She ran her fingers through  her hair and glared at him. For a moment, he glimpsed her innocence again but it was gone as soon as it came. She was becoming one of them. Fearless and deadly. What had changed in her, he could not say, but suddenly he recalled what her mother the Queen had said: Arjä has things she must accomplish in the human world if she is to become queen of Arvynen one day.”

Was that it? Was she to lose her cheerful nature to become dead inside like them? Like her mother. Rodric sighed.

Empty streets are not a good sign, especially in a place like this.”

Arjä shook her head. “I am aware of it but it is none of our business what happened or is happening to the people in this town. We must reach the forest.”

Rodric grabbed Arjä again as she turned to walk away.

“Are you out of your mind?” he hissed. “No one ventures into the forest. There are—“

“Cannibals, Captain Belavue. Aye, and we’ve been expecting you.”

The sound of metal filled the air around them as he and Arjä drew their weapons. Swiftly, like an experienced swordsman, she pressed her back to his.  They turned in a circle, searching for potential enemies. There was no one around them. Dark laughter echoed around them and goose bumps rose on his flesh. Arjä cursed. Then, the sun vanished. An enormous winged shadow passed over them and the world turned black. Rodric blinked, attempting to see something, but just as he started to make out shapes in the darkness, it passed. His eyes watered as light blasted into them.

 “Arjä, levo, wol mo.”

Rodric’s jaw dropped as he realized there was a man in front of them wearing little else than dark trousers and a smile that could only be described as sin incarnate.

“Raskard, you bastard, I am not your love and have never been. Yeu ruano thi. ”

The man threw back his head and laughed. His long dark hair whipped around his face as he shook his head, clearly amused at Arjä's retort.

“That’s not what you used to say,” he replied, his accent thick in his melodious voice.  The man named Raskard looked at Rodric with curiosity. Rodric narrowed his eyes and pointed his sword at him. Arjä  might know him, but he didn’t. The man shook his head and smiled. There was no warmth in the gesture. “It matters little now, eh, levo? You and your friend are to come with me for you have caught the interest of the Lord.”

#WednesdayBriefs: Myths, Secrets and Love - chapter 11

Happy Wednesday and welcome to another installment in Rodric's quest, adventure, thing.
If you don't remember what happened last week or want to catch up, please click here. Otherwise, read on!

Myths, Secrets and Love 11

"Say what?"

Arjä laughed.

“They deemed you were honest in your quest and helped. That, Captain, is the map that will lead you toward the man you love.”

Rodric opened his mouth to protest but no words came out. He shuddered as he recalled the heart wrenching desperation he had gone through just thinking that he had never found Fergus. It was time he came to grip with reality. Clearing his throat, he glanced down at the weather-beaten map in his hand.

“Devil’s Island.” He looked up at Arjä, who was staring back at him with twinkling eyes. Rodric scowled. “Stop looking so smug. Have you ever heard of this place?” He waved the parchment in the air.

Arjä smile’s vanished. Her almost white hair fell over her face as she nodded.

“It is not a friendly place,” she whispered.

“What’s that supposed to mean?” He looked down at the confusing map. There were oceans and mountains he’d never heard of. How could Fergus have ended up there?

“Most who go there, don’t—“

“Don’t.”

Rodric’s head snapped up as he realized what she was about to say. Fergus could be dead already. It was something he always suspected. A pirate’s life was always shadowed by death, but no one paid the Lady of Eternal Darkness much attention. Since Ferguson’s disappearance, though, Rodric had been unable to shake off the feeling that she was on to them. Lady Darkness was watching their backs, waiting for the perfect moment to strike and take their last breath of life from them. They had avoided her several times, but maybe this time they’d gone too far. Maybe this time, Fergus had not been able to escape her clutches.  After all, why would the men that had kidnapped Fergus keep a hostage that had nothing to offer? He was poor as a beggar, the last treasure he had collected on the boat Rodric was captain of. Rodric dug the heel of his foot into the sand. He was still alive. He clung to hope like a madman clings to a coil of rotten rope. Fergus was alive, he’d know otherwise. Rodric ran his fingers through his hair before staring at the map again.

“How do we get there?”

Arjä shrugged. “Devil’s Island is in a different plane of existence. From what I understand we must be invited to go there, otherwise—“

Rodric almost choked on his own spit. A different plane of existence? An invitation? Had the fairies poisoned him? Was he still dreaming?

“You’re telling me—“

“There are more worlds than one, Captain Rodric.” Arjä crossed her legs and opened her palms for him to see. “What do you see?”

Rodric glanced at Arjä, his eyebrows raised. “Your hands.” Had the fairies poisoned her too? The young unicorn maiden had definitely not been this mysterious and wise before.

“Look again.”

“Your hooves,” he whispered.

Arjä smiled and pulled back her hands.

“Most humans will only see hands. Even when presented with the obvious they will still tell you that they are hands. They do not wish to see what lies beneath. You are not like them and neither is Fergus. You see the magic.”

“But other worlds—“

“Where do you think some of us came from, Captain?” Arjä’s lips quirked. “There is constant movement between worlds, even if most do not know it.”

“And now Fergus has moved to another world?” Rodric shook the parchment.

“So it seems.”

“All right.” He sighed. “ Supposing I believe all this, how do we get there?”

The unicorn princess's eyes brightened with a violet sheen he'd only seen in the Queen of the Arvynen before.

“Dragons.”
