He ground out the words, unable to tear his gaze from the pair. The man tugged the woman by the hand. She walked a step behind him, twisting the strap of her purse and keeping her head bowed.  Fear rolled off in waves from her. Sisu growled. His teeth pricked his bottom lip as they transformed. The wolf within him howled in victory. 

“Sisu.” Lee grasped his forearm in a punishing grip. “I don’t know what the fuck is happening, but I can imagine, look at me.”

Even within the hundreds of smells permeating Moon Point, he could pick out her scent. Sweet, like ripe strawberries. Tempting, like fresh mango fruit. He sniffed the air. There was something else, musky, piquant, delicious.  The wolf within him surged, slamming against his chest. What the hell?

She didn’t comment, no doubt too nervous at this point to say much. The first time he’d shown anyone his art he’d also been scared shitless. The file loaded and opened. His eyes widened. The shading, the contours, the bird had a vividness to it he wasn’t sure he’d be able to reproduce in ink. Vivienne was right. Betty was talented.
“You want that on your breast?” he asked, still trying to take in the detail of the picture and envision it on flesh.
“Yes,” her answer was adamant, and he glanced at her. “To cover a scar,” she said softly.

Four days.

Prudence kept her eyes closed in an effort to relax, but her mind kept playing tricks on her and she kept seeing Killian’s eyes behind her lids. Her chest ached and she knew it was from the pain in her heart. She hated having to push him away, hated having to say no to him when she wanted to scream yes. Gods, she could still taste him on her lips. She bit back a sob, how she’d wanted to give in to him right then, melt into a kiss they both deserved.

He had to know she loved him, right? But this was for the best because the more time they spent together, the worse it would be for both of them. He was a warrior and she a Spell Caster. They both had work to do and couldn’t have a partner interfering. The greater good was all that mattered.

“Killian, don’t you understand by doing this you’re just making it worse? It’ll be harder when we leave,” she whispered.
“It’s always hard,” he snapped. “Always, and if you can’t see it, Prudence, then maybe you’re right and spending most of our time apart is the best decision you ever made.” Killian turned his back on her and scrubbed his hand over his face. “I need some fresh air.”
“Killian.”
Shaking his head, he strode back to the elevator and pressed the button for the terrace. They weren’t supposed to fly within city limits, but fuck that. He needed to uncloak his wings and get out of here before he went back to face Prudence.

He leaned down, close enough my breath caught, and we stopped moving with the music. “Give me the green light, Kelly.”

Mind blank, I blinked.

“If you don’t say no right now, I’m going to kiss you.”


“Yes,” I heard myself whisper. He must have read my lips because there’s no way he heard my voice above the band.


Jamison brushed his lips across mine, and everything but the thump of my heart faded to silence. Gentle sweeps of his soft mouth liquefied my bones, and I sagged against his hard chest.


One hand pulled me flush against him as the other cradled my nape, and oh, lordy, did I hang onto his shirt for dear life. He licked along the seam of my lips, and I opened, trembling and near weeping at the pure deliciousness of his kiss. His breath. His clasp on my neck—tender yet…dominant in his hold.


Wintergreen swarmed my senses along with the flavor of his mouth, the sweet, underlying taste of Jamison, and while my body was more than ready to be ravished, the feeling only intensified as the hardness trapped in his jeans pressed against my belly.


Gone. No other word for it. Caught up in a maelstrom of feeling easily topping a ten, I didn’t know what to do or think. Unable to even make a rational decision, I rode the wave, letting him lead.


Too soon, much too damn soon, he pulled back and rested his forehead on mine as we both fought for air. He started swaying again, our bodies still pressed tightly together, his grip on my neck lessening. Eventually, he began soothing his hand down my hair, and I closed my eyes, knowing I’d lost a major battle.


If Jamison asked me to go home with him, I wouldn’t hesitate, the jerk. He hadn’t gotten into my panties, but he sure as hell weaseled his way to the brink where I wanted him to reach inside my waistband and blow my damn mind.


He twisted his fist up in my hair and tipped my head back, the slight sting sending a pulse straight down to my pussy. The intensity in his dark eyes sent another rush of moisture between my thighs. My mind whispered yes to whatever question he planned on tossing out, my body so on board I wanted to cry.


“Dinner?”


What was up with me and the damn blinking? Simple idiot… He had to think that of me.


“Do you want to get some dinner?” he asked again, his lips quirking in a smirk.


I wanted to press against his hard-on and tell him I’d have a dose of that for dinner, but… I’m no notch. “Sure,” I managed.
